@watchingthespaces Have you ever been to TV Tropes org? There are people who actually call him a villian because of that episode. They claim he goes insane, declares himself a God, and The End of Time is his redemption. I've watched Doctor Who since childhood and that's the first time anyone's called him a villian. Of course that's what they say, and it's certainly not what the actual writer said.

@Aiffe Well, that's up to Steven Moffat.But the vast majority have survived.So if you don't die the term plot armor doesn't really apply.

@MrMarvel323 Most of the ones in the new series have plot armor once they get through their first episode, though he's had a couple that died before they could become proper companions. But there were a few in the classic series that didn't make it, and I think it's only a matter of time before the new series has more deaths. Travelling with the Doctor is dangerous.

@ranganathpai 0:43 is the one in season 4 with Agatha Christie, he's having a flashback about the time he want to Belgium: "I went there to find Charlemagne. He'd been kidnapped by an insane computer". That clip is basically all there is to it.

0:45 is some flashback where he's thinking about Gallifrey, I'm thinking the beginning of Gridlock (2nd episode of season 2?) when Martha asks him if they can go to his planet, and he tells her about it.
