When Wacom sent one of the UK's only Inkling prototypes to Jigsaw Systems HQ for a week, we couldn't resist putting it through its paces. Here, our multimedia designer, Tom Cottle, responds to a Facebook poll and uses the Wacom Inkling to create a heli-giraffe. Can it really replace the scanner? To find out more about the Inkling, give us a call on 03332 400 100, email us at sales@Jigsaw24.com or visit http://info.Jigsaw24.com/Wacom-Inkling. you can also find us on Facebook and @WeAreJigsaw24.

This video was created using Sony EX1 and EX3 cameras, and edited in Adobe Premiere CS5.5.

  • Wow. Didn't know misalignment could happen. That's good to know. So what happens when you run out of ink. Can you stick in any type of ink fro any office supply store?

  • @DeamonSun You can buy any regular ball point pen refill from a stationary store - no need to buy anything fancy. I quite like that you can therefore choose your own colours, and work with brands that you're used to. Yes, the misalignment was a little frustrating, but the unit that we used in the video was a prototype, so hopefully Wacom will be smoothing this out as they produce more.

  • Downside is that a lot of Brush strokes in an illustrator document is a real memory hog...

  • @locomangoze it's true that all those brushstrokes can bog down the file in Illustrator, fortunately using the 'new layer' button often so you can more easily sort out the lines you need from those you don't means that you can minimise the impact of file sizes in Illustrator.

  • Would you please do a tracing of a drawing underneath tracing paper, so we can see how accurate that would be?

  • @LobsterPotsticker Hello there, sorry we've not been able to provide you with a drawing underneath tracing paper. Wacom kindly leant us their prototype to make this video, since when the Inkling has been flying off the shelves faster than we're able to chase, and so until I can snag one to have another play with I'm afraid I won't be doing any traced sketches. Thanks for your question though.

  • Can anyone tell me If one were to draw just the outlines of a character to bring into illustrator, would the drawings be simple and manageable vectors? Or does the Inkling just take in the information as messy. I'm assuming it would make one line until you lift the pen again, but perhaps not.

  • Why is all the comments to long :o?

  • is it possible that those imprecision were caused by not drawing on the table for example and just drawing on a drawing pad, were the surface keeps changing and paper gets bent by drawing on it?

  • I am waiting for a version of this which IS for precise drawings. I'd like to draw traditionally and not worry about the eyes not being perfectly round just like in the drawing in this video. No precision is NOT ok.
