i don't now, i mean what you say have sense but when you remember that the original prience of persia have 2 sequels that happens no so after the first, that cross in the middle of the seven years of running from the Dahaka (whit no mention of "Battles of Prince of Persia" game for the nintendo ds, so is debatable

In fact, the official version is that this prince is the same of original game, but the history of "sands of time" occurs before of original history.

So the history is: After releasing sands of time, the prince rewinds all the history so it never happens, and went to Fara's room to tell her the story, give her the dagger, and prevent her about Jaffar plans.. Is then when he is discovered and sent to the palace dungeons as seen in the first adventure.

maybe sound weird, but i like to think the father of the prince was the original prince of the "prince of Persia" games (the old 2d ones and maybe the first 3d for dreamcast) as i wish the next price would be a son of this one
