Yeah there were many bad train crashes, my great uncle was killed when a CN freight collided head on with a CN passenger back in the 60's on the Gaspe Coast, the passenger's engineer was also killed but there were only injuries from the other crew and passengers.
Well, one of the worst, in terms of lives lost. The Spanish River wreck of 1910 had 43 casulaties, Jeanette's Creek, near Chatham, in 1854 had 52, and Desjardins Canal, near Hamilton had 59. Hinton has 23 and Dugals, 31.
From what I have gleaned, the Camper apparantly held an order to meet the Continental at Dugald and was either directed in the order to take siding, or it was understood to take siding according to the rules as it was an inferior train. Even though I have heard that the Continental was stopped at the station before the collision occured, it may have only just arrived. In any event, under the rules the train holding main track is not obliged to line the switch for the passing track.
I used to live in dugald and i know a couple people who were at the train crash... They said ppl were beheaded and flaming.. not gay... i dont think...
extremely unfortunate that this happened to these poor people. It saddens me that one of the one of the most remarkable machines (Steam train) can end up like this. Very sad. For the people and the railroad.
Isn't the worst one. The worst one was the Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne derailment on December 12, 1917 where 800 French soldiers died.

Did someone fail to throw the switch and cause the train to collide with the stopped Continental Express in the siding?
