I'm sorry, but good cycling infrastructure is more than just a name and some paint.

Speaking as both a cyclist and a car driver they are a good idea even if they do need fine tuning! As a car driver I do my best to keep out of the cycle lanes where possible, it helps to keep my distance. But my only question is will this make certain cyclists look out for themselves a bit more. I totally agree with the adds aimed at vehicle drivers to look out for cyclists but I think some riders need to cycle responsibly. Cycle lanes are a good idea, let's see how it pans out in the long ru

They should have spent the time and focused on getting CS7 right. Forget training and incentives, they should have focused on excellent street design.

Continuous?!
Go down to Battersea Park road south of the river and you'll find a mile long stretch where parking spaces interrupt the 'super' highway every 20 yards...
Shocking Boris...

Pros: Aids navigation in confusing London(!),
Will get more people cycling
Cons: false sense of security,
Problematic/dangerous at junctions to keep on the left,
Encourages the view from motorists that "cyclists should be in the cycle lane" and not on the road,
Cars will and can legally use them in congestion, or at any time

Ah yes, the famous Blue Banshees, whose natural habitat is the bicycle lane. We have lots of those in the Netherlands as well. A recent offshoot of the Witte Wieven with a need for speed, they are mostly harmless. Don't anger them though, or you might find that traffic lights will always spontaneously switch to red when you approach a crossing.

Those paths are a joke, if they were build here someone would get fired
Apperantly 35% of all moves happen with a bicycle. 500ppl/hour is a popular route? wed call that a quiet and calm cyclepath. They just dont seem to be serious about their cycling campaign, they should implement the dutch way of making cyclepaths. i yell at some of them here because they dont have tarmac, yes i expect smooth tarmac, not a place next to cars, but smooth tarmac for my own. anyway, those cyclehighways are a joke

Great initiative! Would be even better if it wasn't reliant on private sector advertising. At present, it looks like funds for this will come from profits made from people that bank at Barclays. Alternatively, the same funds could come from the same people, except through taxes (or a slightly different subset of taxpayers, if levied from car users). The public will pay for it either way, but the latter avoids the advertising and branding of these cycle routes.
I recently bought a bicycle via the cyclescheme, getting almost 50% off the price of the bicycle: I'm now cycling every day to work on a gorgeous Bianchi bike. This and other initiatives like this one are very encouraging, for getting more people on bicycles and for people already cycling.
