Muhammad Ali was at the age of 38 when this fight happened, he had a thyroid condition slowing his metabolism and speed, making him weaker day by day. Later being diagnosed with Parkinson's
Watching the video shows how he trained and trained and in the fight he barely landed 5 shots on Larry Holmes.
Ali shouldn't have taken the fight, he was simply not up to it.
But this shows how he never gave up and even at the end, Holmes refused to take credit.

@squeal13 That is not true. Holmes gave it his best. He said that himself many times in interviews. He prepared himself because it was either him or Muhammad. He gave him a real beating, didn't hold anything back at all. The only reason he didn't fully get to Ali is because he didn't know what Ali still had in him. Ali is great, Holmes is great, but Holmes gave it his everything.

Ali could have been a sports commentator or a bit player in some Hollywood films but he fought too long. I don't blame him though because like what Michael Jordan said sometimes you stay "For the love of the game".

Holmes was all class for this fight. He could have destroyed Ali and possibly killed him. Ali's hands were down and defenceless, but Holmes would not hit him He had far too much respect for Ali.

Holmes deserves much more credit as a great boxer and a decent human.

Ali is the greatest overall athlete and will remain as such. But it was very sad to watch him during this period. Thank goodness Ali found direction again to retain his greatness through humanitary endeavours.
