SEE THE FULL LENGTH VIDEO WITH ALL THE DETAILS HERE: http://www.mindbites.com/lesson/7151-watercolour-painting-from-catastrophe-to... In this video visual artist Elizabeth Tyler shows how she started off with a watercolour project inspired by a swan she saw in a Copenhagen canal surrounded by buildings. The buildings reflected in the water created multicoloured patterns around the swan.
After sketching and masking, wetting and painting, adding more and more colour she realized that it was definitely not going to work. The multicoloured water looked more like an oil pollution catastrophe than anything else and the colours were too strong and dominant.
She decided to turn the colourful waters of the city canal into the shallow transparent waters of a peaceful lake.
This video shows how she did it.
