The Black Male Handbook is a collection of essays for Black males on surviving, living, and winning. Kevin Powell taps into the social and political climate rising in the Black community, particularly as it relates to Black males. This is a must-have book, not only for Black male readers, but the women who befriend, parent, partner, and love them.

The Black Male Handbook answers a collective hunger for new direction, fresh solutions to old problems, and a different kind of conversation -- man-to-man and with Black male voices, all of the hiphop generation. The book tackles issues related to political, practical, cultural, and spiritual matters, and ending violence against women and girls.

The book also features an appendix filled with useful readings, advice, andresources. The Black Male Handbook is a blueprint for those aspiring to thrive against the odds in America today.

  • The worst thing I hate about being black is that no one allows you to be 'you'...people always lump you into a stereotype...even other black people...

All I want is my induvisuality...to me induvisuality is a form of freedom...but no one will let you be free...

  • Kid, the only person who is keeping you from being the individual that YOU want to be is YOURSELF. I too once felf like you and often struggle with this same feeling of being repressed by society as a whole, but I do know that the real person I'm fighting against is myself. Only me can keep me from doing anything. Nobody else, can keep you from doing, being, and having what you want.

  • @mrhonkee You are right. Niggers don't read books; however, Black people do read books. I am black, I am a contributor to this book, and a writer of my own book. So glad I am not a nigger!

  • Thank you, Bro. Powell, for your incredible work. You are an inspiration, not just to Black Men, but to all men. Onward & Upward, Brother! '06

  • I think he means well.

  • writing a book to help the black man prosper and succeed was an excellent concept except theres one thing you failed to acknowledge..............niggers dont read books

  • @ghostchild88

This happens to people off all races. It's mainly ur race that stereotypes u.

Another thing I don't like is that blacks think other blacks go through problems.

  • I highly recommend this book. It is VERY INFORMATIVE. I had to purchase The Black Male Handbook after I checked it out at my local library. A good read indeed.
