It is devoid of the energy that maestro Newman infused into the piece!
John Williams you rendered this piece soul and bloodless!
-
This version sounds sluggish compared to Alfred Newman's ORIGINAL SCORE!

I have a 78 rpm recording, issued in 1948, of Alfred Newman's version of "Conquest." In this performance, the LA Philharmonic Orchestra uses the exact same arrangement.
Fight on!

I love a good march- and this is the greatest of them all!

This music captures the essence of one of the greatest adventures ever carried out in History. The conquest of the Americas.
-
I am very closely related to Newman :D and John Williams always takes his music and makes it weird like right now.
-
I agree that Williams takes this slower than the movie version; and I like the movie version better.

@cyberlarry7 Yes, I agree with you. This superb tune, showing Cortez' march toward history, is used out of its realm by sports. To this day, although I rarely get a chance to see Captain from Castille, just listening to this score takes one back 5 centuries. That was the world then--Europe was exploring and conquering. The heck with Political correctness..this was the era of expansion. Newman did a great job capturing the feel and essense of the Conquistadors...

I guess the composer didn't share your view since he turned over the rights to the piece in 1950. Fight On!

As a Trojan fan, I love this almost as much as the National Anthem....and has the same ability to move me. The composer, Alfred Newman turned over the rights to this song to USC in 1950. The Newman Recital Hall at SC is named after him.

Completely agree. One of the great traditions in college football with Traveler storming the field to sound of Conquest. As the first poster said the old movie clip version was better than this one.
