http://www.ted.com Hans Rosling had a question: Do some religions have a higher birth rate than others -- and how does this affect global population growth? Speaking at the TEDxSummit in Doha, Qatar, he graphs data over time and across religions. With his trademark humor and sharp insight, Hans reaches a surprising conclusion on world fertility rates.
TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. religion DOES have a lot to do with wether it allows women to have less babies, get good education, enter the work force.
countries are slowly waking up and easing the rules of their own religion and that is why the growing population trend will come to a halt.

No, people don't need more children, they need to stop enculturation into ethnocentric views and become capable of living within different societies around the world as our ancestors did, that's the only way to sustain human life on earth by allowing nature overcome human overcrowding in a regional perspective.

The graphs aren't as simple as they are you think they are. Theres alot of work behind them, and Hans is not alone working on them. I prefer this presentation rather then listening to boring speeches 2 hours long where you forget 95 percent just because of boringness. And you must realize that there is no difference in accuracy if the data is presented in a boring way or in an entertaining way. Finally, as with every other statistics there are always more factors that could be counted in.

this video completely ignores the dangers of underpopulation. when you don't have enough children, you have less young workers capable of paying for the costs of the elderly, and then massive societal suffering will ensue. look at where Japan is heading. look at the austerity measures in Greece when you have too few people working and too many people depending on the government. we need to start having more children.

Couldn't agree more.
However, I think what he meant is that there are no significant differences between religions. Whether you are Christian, Hindu or Muslim does not influence your fertility rate. The fact that you are religious, does.

Like his data, but his conclusion is wrong. The four points he mention needed to halt the population growth (9:43) are the very ideas that religion fights aginst. You need to look no further than the pope telling people that condoms are immoral or the nut cases trying to ban abortion or voting against government health care.
The population is going to plateau, due to secular ideas taking women off the animal cycle of birth. They dragged religion kicking and screaming out of the dark ages
