I had an underground temperature sensor fail and m design worked perfectly for easily removing it.
I attached the temperature sensor onto a 1/2 inch PVC threaded cap and screwed it to 30+ feet of 1/2 in PVC pipe. This 1/2 inch pipe also has the communication cable in it, which makes changing the sensor a breeze. The 1/2 inch PVC pipe slips inside the larger 1 1/2 in PVC pipe which has a cap on the end of it as well and has a small hole drilled in it. This hole allows the temperature sensor to slide right down inside of it and out the end of the 1 1/2 inch cap. The temperature sensor is reading the underground temperature of the dirt (earth).
It worked fantastic!
