The flagship of Russia's polar fleet, "Akademik Fyodorov", is due to return to St. Petersburg at the end of a 40-day expedition to the Arctic. It's the same vessel that a year ago rekindled Russia's presence in the region with its ground-breaking survey of the North Pole seabed.

  • @drake2919 I think the profits should be shared using the risk of lethal virus discovery taken by world populations. 15% or so for India, for example.

  • it's funny, we will see a large scale war in our time because of the vast pocket of resources beneath the ice cap. The Russians plant a flag with an R.O.V. and now Canada has spent the about 35 billion dollars to create a new navy. In the newspaper it showed an example of what the ships will be and the caption even said that this is the proposed design for an Arctic war vessel. As well, Canada has spent almost 200 million dollars on roughly 60 brand new F-35 jets... Canada is ready to rock

  • @superaryanlove No fu*k that.. Stick a British flag in the centre and claim the lot - send an army of red coated musketmen and cannon, ought to do the trick.. ;)

You are right, the Arctics resources should be divided as fairly as possible - Russia undoubtedly gets the most due to its immense size but not much more than Canada IMO, plus the other nations - the US should not get any more than it is due. If any non-bordering nation made a claim, that WOULD be a problem.

  • @drake2919 50% to russia?what a joke..this matter should be resolve in a peaceful and lawful way.and i believe lawfully its canada's territory and in the end of teh day the law of seas will be on our side which is based on historical accounts and geographical evidences.russia knows which country it really belongs to.canada will not bite on russia's puppy punting BS.

  • The Arctic is doing well without apes polluting it, and destroying more habitat.

  • They should split the area fairly. All the countries in the running deserve some.
