QR Code is very popular in the Japan market and is being used by Google FavoritePlaces. Microsoft Tag is a whole new kind of barcode which utilizes colored diamond and patterns capable of storing large amounts of data in a small tIny square.

For my mobile web sites, I like to use both QR Code and Microsoft Tag because they are both promising technologies. My personal favorite is Microsoft Tag because of the unique color coded sequence of patterns that is embedded with a code. Basically, QR Code is open source and can store the actual text that the creator wants to create. QR Code can store the actual link, text, phone number, contact information, and more. If your number and/or address changes, your code is no longer good. Like your business cards, you have to toss it and create some more.
There are services on the Internet that allows the ability to store information on their server. You create ONE QR Code, if you information changes, the barcode is still good. BeeTagg is one of the free services you can use for this type of use.
Microsoft Tag does not give you the ability to create a tag that actually has the data in it. Basically, it is like a serial number that links to the Microsoft server, then redirects your mobile browser to your contact list (vCard) on your phone, web site address in your browser, dials a phone number, or show text. The advantages of having a server store your information is great. If your information changes, there is no need to create a new tag. Just simply update the server, then your information is actually changed instantly. The only thing you do have to change is your business cards, however, you do not have to send your business card printers a new Microsoft Tag. With QR Code, you will have to send them a new barcode.
http://beetagg.com/ - creates, manages, and mobile app are free to use. They do offer an enterprise edition that you can pay for as well. They offer QR Code, Datamatrix, and their own BeeTagg.
http://i-nigma.com/ - creates free QR Codes but they do not store information. The tag is embedded with the information. They do offer enterprises services as well.
http://microsoft.com/tag - Microsoft Tag is a proprietary barcode or tag that allows for the storing of data. At this time, professional and personal use of this service is free. They are in the beta stage now. With Microsoft Tag, you can create artwork around your tags to make them unique.
