Trinity's Sètanta Dancers dancing Cú Chulainn at Milwaukee's RiverSplash.

The dance was choreographed by Ellen Gahl with the help of Sètanta dancers in the summer of 2007, with music for Cú Chulainn composed by percussionist/flautist Stone. It was first performed by Sètanta in August of 2007 at Milwaukee's Irish Fest.

Sètanta is associated with the word hero & has come to symbolize prodigious strength & remarkable beauty. Ancient Gaelic legend holds that Sètanta was a preeminent hero who at age 17 single-handedly defended his province against the warring armies of Ireland. He later earned the name Cú Chulainn for his heroism. In his final battle, he tied himself to a pillar-stone so to remain standing rather than fall in defeat.

Is this a classic Irish dance? I really enjoyed it. The little girl seems very talented! I love Irish music and dance. I've never been to Ireland, made it to England twice, but not enough time in the trip to go to Scotland or Ireland.
