@KnightCrawler2 -Yes, it's only the end of the Mayan calendar. People also may like the thrill of big events in their lives which cut through the mundaneity of their tax-slave functions. However, the REAL government could use the 2012 predictions and fear, and create THEIR terror with secret technology, such as Haarp - so that people would think this omen has come true. With the predictive programming in the 2012 film, this would have a more economical effect on people than done at other times.
