This video shows you how to fix accessories to tiles such as soap dish holders and toothbrush holders using sticky pads and silicone sealant. This means that it is not necessary to drill through the tiles! Brought to you by http://www.ultimatehandyman.co.uk/forum1/

  • hey up, nice video and a good idea too, thanks. Would this be good for fixing a shower head holder/bracket to tiles? They're pretty small and don't carry much of a load - what do you reckon? Another thing - how easy is it to clean up if you decide to remove a siliconed fixture?

  • @needwoodfamily

It might hold it, but to be honest for shower riser rails I normally put a couple of rust proof fixings in. I suppose you could try it?

Cleaning up the old silicone is not difficult. Lets say you wanted to remove the backplate that I stuck to the wall in this demo, just get a large pair of water pump pliers and grip the back plate and turn it and it will break the seal.

  • Amazing! It would never have occurred to me to use silicone like this. These videos are a goldmine. :) Have you ever tested how much weight it would take, before coming away?

  • @dalriada842

I have not tested it yet but will be doing in the next few weeks as I am doing a full bathroom refurb in the next few weeks.

  • thats good but this will leave space between towel ring and tile because of sticky pud thickness

  • @xmenxwk

Not really, the fixing plate is tapered so the item being fixed will still pull to the wall.

You can always just use the silicone and support it in position with some masking tape etc.

    Thanks for the comment ;-)

  • @Steve10578 No Nails _(tm) should work and dryes in 5 minutes did the same and it helt in almost two years *(normal use)

  • @Steve10578

Silicone should do the trick, just make sure you give it 24 hours to go off fully!

  • Would this method be ok to fix a shower head holder? How about no nails or something similar?
