Yes, John McRea was a field surgeon. He was killed in battle not long after composing his famous poem.
-
John McRae was truly inspired to write this poem. Unless I'm mistaken he was a doctor, very affected treating the dead and the dying in Belgium.
He was himself killed not long after. A truly great sacrifice.

Simply beautiful tribute. Thank you.

They used this music for the film Platoon. It was not written for that purpose and was also used in the film Elephant Man. Think it's called Adagio in C strings or something similar.
-
How are you associating this music with Vietnam?
Lest we forget.
My great grandfather died on the Western Front.
