Walter Cronkite delivered a full-throated defense of liberalism at People For the American Way's Spirit of Liberty dinner held on 11/17/1988 at the Roseland Ballroom in NYC -- just days after George H. W. Bush was elected president. Cronkite was introducing that year's recipient of the Spirit of Liberty award -- Barbara Jordan -- who co-founded PFAW with legendary producer Norman Lear and others.
