Brewing the www.homebrewtalk.com 888 Russian Imperial Stout on New Year's Eve, 2007.

Apologies for the wind...not much I could do about that without video editing software.

  • the other day i missed my og by about 6 ponts... but i ended up with about .75 gallon of unused wort.. kinda thinking i over sparged. So I could have kept boiling until i reached my correct og.. even with a 60min addition of hops?

  • Absolutely! I boiled for a little over an hour before my first hops addition (the 60 minute bittering addition for this recipe).

  • I'd question the desirability of boiling any wort for approaching an hour.

Better to be more careful & avoid over sparging.

  • how bigs your kettle? and have you tried skimming to remove the protein?

  • When your brewing your wort, it's supposed to be for 1 hour, right?

What would happen if you did a two hour boil?

Do higher gravity beers need more boil time?

    Teach me!!!!!

  • that kettle is HUGE

i could live in there... if it wasn't filled with wort

  • gotcha.. it will help next time to have my sight glass in order..
