Victorian Bushfires | Feb 2009

7th February 2009 will go down in history as the hottest day ever recorded in Victoria, Australia. As a consequence of this, years of drought, enduring heatwaves we haven't seen in a century and with the help of arsonists, we experienced the worst ever bushfire in Australian history.

As of today, nearly 200 poeple have been killed and 750 homes lost. Some say the death toll may reach 300. My heart and soul goes out to those who perished in horrible circumstances and to those in mourning of lost lives, homes, friends, family, possessions, cattle and the list goes on.

Australians are rallying behind those in need with huge fund raising efforts. The biggest of which is the Red Cross Victorian Bushire 2009 Appeal which can be found out http://www.redcross.org.au

Please pass this video along to those you know as it asks for donations at the end and is a great way to raise awareness of the horror these people went through and the heroics of our wonderful fire fighters, paramedics and volunteers.

Definitely the best video of the fires I have seen. That is if anything about these fires can be called 'best'. Thanks - and thanks for identifying the music - a perfect choice. It is inteesting how little footage of actual firefighting appears to be available.
