I can't tell you how many times I've had to stand there and listen to a friend or coworker yammer on and on and on about gossip or absolutely nothing and the whole time im giving them the blank face and they just do not get it that what they're talking about is utterly uninteresting and useless. And the whole time I'm thinking to myself "stop talking...stop talking....stop talking..SHUT THE FUCK UP ALREADY I DONT CARE." Then I make an excuse and walk away and they get all butt hurt and offended.

Indeed. I think that video I mentioned in my last post is a clip from Inside the Actor's Studio. I wish I knew where I could find the whole episode since Carlin's monologue was so different from his usual style. He was actually, dare I say, heart-warming! Not your usual Carlin, that's for sure!

@hoelbigel I do get it. I was trained in radio broadcasting & I know what SCHTICK is. My problem is that he used certain personal feelings as schtick, as material.  My personal opinion is that not all feelings should be shared.

Remember that he's on stage here. If you've ever seen him interviewed in his last years when he wasn't doing an act on stage, you'll find that he was actually quite a calm and content man. His act, like all comedy, is an exaggeration of himself. Watch the video "George Carlin on aliens" and you'll see him explain the nature of his cynicism. His monologue is very soft-spoken compared to his usual aggressive tone and it's very interesting to see him just being himself.
