Willow Weep for Me was composed in 1932 by Ann Ronell. The first time I heard it was in 1964 by Chad and Jeremy where it reached #1 on the Billboard top 100.

I am dedicating this song to my Dad, Rollie, aka Jolly Rollie. I fondly remember that he always called me 'Doll" and raised me as a single parent. He passed away at age 53 on Thanksgiving Day when I had just turned 20 and I wish I had known him as an adult. He knew heartbreak and deep sorrow. Yet he chose to spread joy to all who knew him.
One of the outlets my dad used for stress relief was planting flowers every spring. LOTS AND LOTS of flowers!! One year, a neighbor lady surprised him by entering one of his spectacular Dalias in the flower show and he got a ribbon...1st prize if I remember right. He had also planted a dozen or more Poplar trees along the back perimeter of our yard and then every spring, he would plant the flower beds surrounding our home in North Dakota in its' brief growing season.

As fond as those memories are to me, I also cherish the memory of a gigantic Willow tree that towered over our neighbors back yard. I would sit on the slope on the side of our home and be mesmerized in the presence of the most beautiful and emotionally moving tree I had ever seen...then or now. I would gaze endlessly at that tree... entranced by its' charm. There was something about that tree that made me feel like life would be overflowing with complicated experiences that could be simplified and understood by sitting beneath such peaceful beauty.
SOOOOO when I recently heard this song, I knew it was the time to sing it as my own life goes through such transitions. I visited that home last summer and was stunned that the current owners had chopped it down. Oddly enough, all the Poplars had also been taken out. I was so looking forward to seeing them again. But I have learned that the only thing we can count on in life is change. Life is full of sorrow and weeping BUT we have to find the beauty in it and keep our focus on THAT and be joy spreaders like my Dad.
Psalms 30:5 says that 'Weeping may remain for a night, but joy comes in the morning". I try to remember that when times get tough. Thank you to all those who remain faithful in visiting my channel. You are a Willow tree in my heart that can never be destroyed.
