  • Yes, what is going on here is that your teaching the pilot how to land without an engine, thus the titles in the lower left Autorotaion. This is a skill so in the event you lose an engine you can walk away from it. I am a flight instructor at Fort Rucker Army aviation center and this is what we do about 6 times a day with a student pilot. There is also an auto with turn and a low-level auto. What is being shown here is called a standard auto. BTW we also do these at night.

  • what a beautiful looking heli... nice

  • @CobraDriver07 Im not sure if I would want to NVG's I was SF for 8 years and they mess with depth perception bigtime... We had numerous blackhawk pilots almost kill us on surface drops while wearing NVG's because they would slam the tail into the ground while touching down... I dont see how anybody can fly with NVG's they limit vision so much, but I could see how it would keep you from flying into the trees head on...

  • @just4playin1 So far we are only authorized to accomplish those maneuvers unaided, without NVG's, but the word coming out is that they are looking into adding that to the course too. If I'm not mistaken we are a bit behind the power curve because I think the Marines and Navy already do them with goggles. But your right, it does make you pucker a bit :)

  • @OneHoof Yes I am but the specifics regarding getting into the program is not in my field of knowledge. Those would be best answered by a recruiter. Good numbers and flight school would be a breeze for you, but you have to look into those issues you mentioned. Good luck and hope to see you out at Lowe AAF.

  • @CobraDriver07 You teach your student pilots to do autos at night??? That would scare the crap outta me! Daytime autos no problem I could ride along and even sleep through those but a night auto??? Would surely be puckered tight for that...lol

  • Hey CobraDriver07, Are you still down at Rucker? I've been trying to get into WOFT since I graduated high school, but my vision kept me out. Once they started accepting laser surgery I successfully had that done. I'm a private pilot with 200 hours fixed wing & 55 hours helicopter 300c time. I scored a 135 on my AFAST test and have a LOR from a CW5. I'm 4 years over the age limit... with current demands for Army helicopter pilots, what do you think my chances of getting an age waiver would be?

  • with the engine gone, there is very little torque and little need for the tail rotor, If the pilots keeps enough airspeed the vertical fin keeps the chopper straight. You do need some tail rotor effectiveness for touchdown and Ofcourse if the tail rotor completely failed the landing would have to be made closer to max run on speed on the ground. Good question though

  • is from brazil, big pilot
