U.S. Army Research Laboratory (Weapons and Materials Research Directorate) research scientists have coupled energetic chemical technology with state-of-the-art high speed cameras to get an up-close inside view of fireballs that Hollywood would envy. ARL's research in detonation science provides critical, initial information in the development of explosives for future Army applications, especially those weapon systems that are invulnerable to accidental detonation. ARL Inside explores the creation of explosive materials - from a novel idea to synthetic chemistry through performance of explosive material - in this segment featuring unprecedented access to energetic technology initiatives within the Weapons and Materials Research Directorate.
