he kind of does have a 'cat' face

was that tom hanks at the begining?

@riflebone Cat didn't play the same way as Maynard by any means. MAynards melodic playing in the upper register on ballads was unsurpassed including to this day. Cat may have played higher, but he was very much more hit and miss. Can't really see him playing "Tenderley" or "Round MIdnight" like MAynard. Can you?

@vargas Cat didn't play lead with Ellington. You'll notice he sat on the far right of teh section which is usually 4th trumpet. Lead was played by others whilst he played the screamers. Same as Maynard in Kentons band. He played 3rd or 4th and did al the screamers.

Also my rankings of screamers
1 cat
2 Jon faddis
3 Maynard

Cat Anderson is the shit, Maynard was most definitely not the first screamer
-
Greatest lead player ever.

Nobody else can play like Cat even if they had his trumpet and his mouthpiece! He is a cool cat!

@GdoubleE01 Helped by the gap between his front teeth - he could blow air through at very high speed easier that pretty much anyone else. Still incredible though!

No other like Cat. The guy had notes no one had and on worse equipment and with less knowledge than the screechers of the 70's and today. He is the target for any lead player.
Of course Cat can hit a high H#

Cat was a phenom - perfected the double-C style playing WAY before Maynard. I also dig the euphonium playing by Buster & the 'bones.
