Christ and Serapis (a short response to Rebel Alliance Media)

The two gentlemen who founded the group called Rebel Alliance Media (known over YouTube as KOC the Great and the Markzman) have raised a number of objections against Christianity as part of a call for open debate. This video attempts to address one of the earlier and smaller objections (I hope to deal with more subjects in the future).

The relevant video from Rebel Alliance Media shared a clip of one of Ray Haggins lectures, in which Mr. Haggins seems to cite a pre-Christian text which records worshipers of Serapis in Egypt calling themselves "Christians" and "Bishops of Christ". The gist of the argument is that this text demonstrates a pre-Christian (and Pagan) origin to Christianity. This video shows that Mr. Haggins either badly misunderstood, or deliberately misrepresented, the relevant text.

Though Mr. Haggins does not cite the source of the text, it is from the Historiae Augustae (specifically the 8th chapter of the portion on Firmus, Saturninus, Proculus and Bonosus). This text can be found in the following source: David Magie (trans.), "The Scriptores Historiae Augustae," (Loeb Classical Library, Harvard University Press, 1991), Vol. III.

NOTA BENE: Because both KOC and the Markzman both live in or around New York (as is gleaned from much of their footage being shot in Manhattan), it is noted that the Research Library on 42nd street and 5th Avenue has this source, under the following Call Number:

Serapis = later Greek version of ancient Egyptian resurrection deity Osiris. Most of the jesus story motifs (including virgin birth, violent death, 3 day entombment, resurrection, and afterlife judgement) are found in the myths, pyramid texts, and ancient rituals involving Osiris, Isis, and Horus.

These can be found to predate Christianity, and even Judaism, by a couple millennia. Jesus followers refuse to accept they worship a borrowed concept
