Washington, DC, is changing rapidly. Some neighbors are happy about it and some are not, well thats because they dont live here anymore. The process of gentrification of bringing richer neighbors to a city while displacing the poorest ones, has caused a whole transformation in many areas of this already segregated city.

About what is happening in DC, everybody has their own side of the story. Lets hear what Cesar, a Washingtonian, has to say.

  • Mourad's former property is that it sits on 6 1/2 acres of prime Boston real estate - essentially a developer's dream. With 1500 predominately African American tenants occupying this development, all that stands in the way of high-rise luxury condominiums, is for further gentrification and ethnic cleansing to pave the way.

  • Gentrification=New racial segregation.

  • @spites1...I don't have an issue with "White People" moving in or mixing, in fact I welcome it! But, in this neighborhood you can feel and see the segregation of the races, especially that of Whites to the others who were there long there before they began migrating to the city. There's hasn't been no attempt by the "White People" who are moving in, to associate with miniorities. They walk around as if they're in a state of mute, especially in the presence of miniorities.

  • @oaklandlatinosunited I think "they" want "you" to finally mix in with everyone else. hiding racism behind the idea of "culture" just to keep "whites" from moving in.

how acceptable is it when white people say "we don't want blacks or latinos in our neighborhoods, they're taking away our culture"?

  • This is the hot line for ICE to report any person that is in the U.S. illegal. It's also very confidential you don't have to give your name or address. So if your sick of going to a severely overcrowded high school like me due to all the illegal Mexicans,Salvadorans,Dominicans or if your tired of not being able to get a summer job due to store owners hiring illegal immigrants at below minimum wage. Call ICE and report them 1-866-347-2423 also call up your local police,Mayor............

  • gentrification is a big problem in the San Francisco Bay Area as well the Mission district is a perfect example back in 60s 70s 80s and 90s it was the harth and center of the central american community in SF now you see more white people and buissnises like coffee houses that cater to them . raising rents have also displace african americans in hunters point and west Oakland . i think they want to kick us out ..

  • I want to go to DC..
