Bitan Lake ( 碧潭) in Xindian (新店), New Taipei City (新北市)

Evening view of Bitan Lake ( 碧潭), historically called Shi-Bitan (石碧潭), and the pedestrian-only suspension bridge over Xindian River in Xindian (Hsintien, Sindian, 新店) in New Taipei City (Xinbei City, 新北市 or 台北縣, formerly Taipei County), Taiwan (臺灣)on Feb. 7, 2011.

Bitan is a stretch of the Xindian River that has been dammed and turned into a recreational area. The name Bitan means "emerald lake", and is derived from the natural, emerald-turquoise color of the water (except during rainy days). Paddle boats can be rented, and there are some great riverside coffee shops that offer views over the river and the lush green mountains beyond. Bitan is located directly behind Xindian MRT Station, the south terminal station of the Metro Taipei's Green Line.
