What's the key of the Iroc's song? I downloaded the backing track and I tried to improvise a solo using G major/E minor key scale.. But I think I'm out of tune.

what di you think the most effective way to learn scales is? ive been teaching my self to play for about 6 months and still lack knowledge of major scales pentatonics... etc.. closes i ave to guitar lessons is a subscriptiosn to milan polak.. lol

@temnost2 Well the first thing you need is to memorize all the notes and apply them to the fretboard. The 2nd thing you need is a book or a website that shows you the exact formula for scales, aka the intervals that make the scale, for example the Major scale is W-W-H-W-W-W-H. All a pentatonic is is a five note scale with the 2nd and 6th intervals of the Major or Minor scales excluded depending if you're playing pentatonic major or pentatonic minor.

Start by learning all the notes on the fretboard, then learning the major scale in a 3 note per string pattern, then connecting all the modes to it in 3 note per string patterns so you can build up your muscle memory and play in key. Also, play to a metronome and start slow.
