The young athletes of China have a great opportunity, the chance to win an Olympic medal in their home country. But with great opportunity, comes enormous pressure. The young athletes at No 6 Middleschool in Lanzhou, one of China's poorest provinces, have an exhausting training and school programme. Some students start training from 5:30am and then there are fourteen hours of school programmes per day. Many of the athletes here come from poor farming families. They hope that sport will be their chance not only to compete in the Olympics, but also to have a better future.

  • chinese "athletes" could elevate their levels easily if they had some clean oxygen to get into their lungs :D

  • @kelborn24 Try it and tell us how well it goes, k?

You may not have realised this but parents do not raise their child to go on a suicidal mission in China.

  • "..at such evalation." hahaha

  • This is just... bleak and depressing.

  • go china ... respect :|

  • @LLitLomL There's nothing they can do? There's many tactics....they could join the army and revolt from within, or whatever....but they also have strength of numbers (obviously), and that can overcome almost anything.

  • @kelborn24 Ummm...that was sort of my point. The people did try to stand up for themselves. I'm sure there's got to be a way to do it that would be effective, but you can't just call the people cowards because they don't have the means to overcome their government. They do horrible things to those who oppose them. Pointing finger just isn't helpful.

  • @LLitLomL Well it sure was effective (massive sarcasm)
