What a splendid example of exemplary singing. There is NO ONE on the OPERATIC STAGE who can SING with this BRILLIANCE and PROJECTION today where hooting and bellowing is constant. The GOLDEN ERA of SINGING only exists on recordings such as this from dedicated connoisseurs of a lost art.

Austral est sans aucun doute un des plus grands sopranos dans la musique de Wagner, ce qui est rare parmi les cantatrices anglaises. Elle etait d'ailleurs accomplie dans Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Rossini, Verdi, meme Donizetti: elle a chante le role de Lucie de Lammermoor. J'aime beaucoup cet extrait avec Austral et Widdop. @65attila Such "embarrassment of riches" in the 1920s-30s in Wagnerian singing - Austral, Leider, Ohms, Kappel...then came Flagstad. Thanks to John for sharing and Julien for posting.

Walter Widdop is a versatile tenor. I have a CD in which he sings music from Handel to Wagner beautifully.

I've always wanted to know what Walter Widdop sounds like as he is some distant relation of my grandma. I wish i had his genes.
