So why do we allow people who are impotent to marry, or people who've had their tubes tied/cut? A lot of people who can't have children can marry, but not gays? Not to mention that two women can have children (with a surrogate father, or science), or that two men could adopt.
Marriage offers a lot of government and employee benefits that can't be received through civil unions/"dating". Either we allow homosexuals to marry, or we change these benefits so they apply to a wider legal spectrum.
