The Jacob Pike is a 60 year-old wooden sardine carrier. She is an icon of the now vanished sardine industry in Maine. The last sardine factory in America was located in Prospect Harbor, Maine. It closed in early 2010.

Sardine carriers played a key roles in the process of turning herring into a commercial product. Their job was to collect what the fishermen caught and transport the fish to the cannery before the sardines spoiled.

This five part story presents some insights from this particular time in Maine's maritime history as well as specific details about the Jacob Pike itself.
