Using six to eight high-speed cameras, Hawk-Eye is one of two systems approved by the International Football Association Board (IFAB) in the quest to tackle goal-line technology.

No sensors in the ball. 7 cameras will be set around both goals to see if the ball crosses the line. youtube doesn't have enough characters for me to explain the technology. but a simple google or wikipedia search will give you the information. Also watch videos of "hawk-eye in tennis" or something like that, it will give you a better understanding.
