@SirBasildeBrush Also named as the possible vocalist on this song is a guy called Earl Sinks....for a while the lead singer with The Crickets.

Sadly, Brian Matthew was misinformed. P.J. Proby has never heard the song before and never aspired to be "A Cricket". This is definitely not P.J. Proby.

@ol49rrrrr In the UK this morning the song was played on "Sounds Of The Sixties" with Brian Matthew..
“It appears that on the 2nd February 1962 P J Proby, aspiring after the rôle of lead singer with The Crickets, recorded with them in his best Elvis style “Fell In Love With A Face with, it’s thought, Glen Campbell providing the backing vocals.
Proby, Campbell and The Crickets combining on an Elvis style record. If that’s not a gem I don’t know what is.”

@MrAlfHartigan Okay, thanks for the info. Cheers.

P J Proby - before Jerry Naylor got the job Proby wanted as lead singer.

Thanks. First I hear of Ronnie Smith. I know that Earl Sinks and David Box sang lead for the Crickets following Buddy's death but I knew this didn't sound like either of them. Cheers.
Do you know who sings lead on this?

From the Feb 2nd recording session. Apparently it's a bit of a mystery. Suggested it may be Ronnie Smith, who teamed up with Allsup & Jennings after Holly's death, and recorded extensively for The Crickets' original producer/manager Norman Petty.

@SirBasildeBrush This song was recorded in Feb. 1962. Ronnie Smith worked with The Crickets (not the original Crickets) directly after Buddy's death. He was his replacement on the "Winter Dance Party" tour for a few weeks.By 1962 Ronnie had serious drug problems & in October of that year he hung himself aged just 24.Doubt if he would have been in a fit state at that time to record anything but never say never!

A great one to sing along with, switching between lead and backing.
