This film is one of a three-part series of films produced by PBS, on the life and works of the great thinker and psychiatrist Carl Gustav Jung. Born on July 26, 1875, in Switzerland, Jung became interested in psychiatry during his medical studies. He saw that the minds of mentally deranged persons had similar contents, much of which he recognized from his own interior life, described in his autobiography Memories, Dreams, Reflections. His lifelong quest to understand the workings of the psyche led him to develop the analytical method of psychiatry. He proceeded by looking at the role in his patients' lives of what he termed the personal and collective unconscious, as expressed through dreams, myths, and outer events.

  • @alexderyckel I think we all share the same dream world, just lived through differently like everybody lives through life differently in different cultures. In my opinion that is.

  • @GreNadE1994 Of course not. How can you be so sure that "colored" people have the same sort of dreams? They may not have the same cultural background. So why would it be silly to think that it might have an influence on their psyche? How can you be so sure that women and men do have the same sort of dreams? I do not think the answers are so obvious. There is no shame or racism in raising these kind of questions.

  • It's interesting how Jung's work has parallels with occultist consents.

  • @GreNadE1994 Don't make too much of it, that was the attitude of the times, and yes it was silly.

  • does anyone else find it utterly stupid to see if " colored " people had the same sort of dreams as white people?

  • I just found this channel as well as VioletPsychofluid, and AlienBaroque today, such great stuff. thank you all for sharing.

  • I'm glad they bring up SciFi as the new myth. We aren't totally without. Mythology isn't extinct. It has changed, as our culture has changed. The old myths don't fit our modern society, so instead of looking to the past as if we lost something, we should see what we have now and take advantage of that.

  • @ThermalHD didn't you watch the doc? their myth is synonymous with their culture, its a way of life. besides the sun is our 'father' and the earth our 'mother' they are responsible for all life that has and ever will exist on this planet.

  • Wonder if there is atheists amongst the indians that dont belive sun is father and earth is mother etc.
