A good song (music) knows no boundries.
I was born in Reykjavík, Iceland & I love this song
& the whole Carter Family. Once a friend of mine,
he was born in the Faroe Islands, dropped by with
his guitar & suddenly started playing this song &
I followed him along chording on mine.
He sprung another song on me without a warning
called "Raunchy". I got this on tape (cass.) somewhere.

I was born in Michigan, grew up many miles from Kentucky. Why does this song make me choke up?

Maybe you could creativeliy combine these sounds. Metallica's Whiskey in the Jar is one of my favorite songs!

I thought I'd heard this before. That's right from Walk The Line. Great song, great music

MAYBELLE is or was a GODDESS so much TALENT beyond all to THIS DAY!!

The way June plays it here is the original style - on older photos of the original Carter Family you can see Sara play it the same way (there's also a clip of Sara and Maybelle on the Johnny Cash show here on Youtube where you can see her play it).
Maybelle herself said that she didn't play the autoharp seriously until later in her carrier, when her arthritis made guitar playing difficult - and it was only then that Maybelle became one of, if not the, first to play it against the body.

I love how when they lean in to sing harmony, they are all exactly the same distance from the microphone. Family harmony, all with equal power, knowing exactly where to go. Can't get any closer than that...

June Carter's autoharp style is very different from her mother's. Does anyone else play it like June? Bryan Bowers uses the Maybelle Carter style (not on this video).

This is truly "feel good" music! I actually feel better now listening to these wonderful people sing! I love the "Wildwood Flower"!

In the last 40 minutes I've bounced from Judas priest to Prince, Heatwave to Jerry reed, Low fidelity allstars to Schubert, Temple of the dog to Yellow, and Testament to this...I love music!

For some reason tonight, I have been feeling the need to reconnect to my Kentucky roots, I listen to metal, play that type of guitar, but tonight, after many years I want to forget all the anger and strong emotions and just hear something for the soul, the last time I've felt this way was when my dad died two years ago, its nice to know I'm always welcome to come back to this music and feel my heritage.
