Kremlin murders

Jan 20 - Russian mourners have laid flowers and lit candles on the pavement where a human rights lawyer and a young reporter were gunned down in central Moscow.

Stanislav Markelov was shot dead less than a kilometre from the Kremlin after a news briefing on Monday.

He'd fought against the early release of a former Russian tank commander who's in jail for the murder of a Chechen girl.

Russian newspaper reporter, Anastasia Baburova, who had walked down the road with Markelov was shot in the head when she ran after the killer.

She died later in hospital.
