Note from Gisele: This feels like San Antonio and New Mexico all over again.

excerpt from website:
Dogs are an integral part of our families and communities, whose companionship
contributes to the social and psychological well being of people from all walks of life.
Public policy is a critical aspect which can determine the quality of this special
relationship we share with our canines. It should not be taken for granted. In all too
many communities, citizens and their dogs are unduly denied access to parks, public
transportation, and even a place to live. In Denver, negative public policy has
resulted in an unimaginable atrocity against residents and innocent dogs.

On May 9, 2005, the Denver Division of Animal Control began enforcing a city-wide
ban on owning pit bull terriers (and any mix breed dog determined to be part pit bull).
An aggressive dog hunt began. Beloved family dogs that had never done anything
wrong and remained confined to the owners property were taken from their homes
and killed against the protest of distraught dog owners.

Under Sec. 8-55 of the Municipal Code, any dog owner who refuses to surrender
their dog will face up to a year in jail and a $999 fine. This ordinance also bans
shelters and humane societies from harboring pit bulls, and even goes so far as to
forbid any US resident from transporting a pit bull through Denver without a permit.

excerpt:
Snow was a lost three year old, deaf, pure white female pit bull, caged at the Denver Municipal
Shelter. Her family was desperately looking for Snow and soon after made the tragic discovery
that she had been picked up and destroyed by animal control. More than 1800 pit bulls (like
Snow) and pit bull mixes have been executed from 2005 to 2008. Hundreds more have been
taken to shelters outside of Denver, in hopes they will not be euthanized. These shelters are
burdened and overcrowded by Denvers irresponsible breed ban.

  • Keep up with the demise of Denver's breed specific ban/ slaughter of pit bulls, and those of us fighting this thing tooth and nail at The Denver Dog Killing Machine on FacebookDOTcom

  • I just learned about the Denver breed ban in one of my classes, and it's absolutely appalling to me. It makes me so upset that this is being allowed to happen.

What can we do to change this and ensure that it won't happen in other communities?

If anyone has any information, I will very gladly listen.

  • my dog's mixed wth a pug nd american eskimo nd it looks lk a black lab.too freaking bad my mom doesnt wnt hr anymore

  • @sheri4dogs I am happy to hear from someone in Denver! People are saying no to Denver by decreased tourism. That has been down for several years. I think it is important to vote the mayor and city council out of office as well. We also need to privatize the animal control services and get rid of that jackass Doug Kelly director of animal control. I have me him and he is a total idiot. The animal control in Pueblo was privatized a few years ago Much better

  • Well done for educating the public about the total destruction that is BSL, sharing this video!!

  • @ 2:13: "I can has pool toy plz?"

Banning dog breeds is stupid. No specific breed is born dangerous. ANY dog can be dangerous, if its owners allows it to be.

  • CUTE!!!

  • FINALLY... someone else jumping in to expose Denver for the short-sighted city they are.

VIVA Pit Bulls and the "good" people of Colorado.
