Yes, you read it right. :)

The Daytona 500 just isn't a Daytona 500 without a rockin' Starting Lineup slideshow. Inspired in no small part by Ken Squier's excellent Daytona 500 broadcasts on CBS, I present to you my performance of what SHOULD come right after the command to start engines in this Sunday's 50th Annual Great American Race.

I have also created this video to walk the walk I've been talking for years. It is my current ambition to one day become a professional commentator for NASCAR racing and I'm eager to take the first step toward that goal. As such, I've treated this presentation as an audition. If you are currently viewing this video from FOX, ESPN, TNT or the SPEED channel, I hope this encourages you to contact me at brockbeard@gmail.com.

1988 Daytona 500 starting lineup image posted by user SimRacin46 at the Historical Stock Car Racing Forum and photoshopped by me. Images collected through Google searches and captured in various recordings. The song is "Las Vegas" from Hans Zimmer's "Rain Man" score, the very music CBS used in 1990-1991 for those lineups.

Be sure to visit my website, "Karaoke For NASCAR Fans," at http://nascarpoetry.blogspot.com for weekly NASCAR Sprint Cup race reviews and commentary put to lyrics of popular songs. Thank you for viewing.

  • What name of song in backgrund?

  • "Las Vegas" by Hans Zimmer, from the sountrack to the movie "Rain Man."

  • Didn't Zimmer do the music for the Simpsons Movie?

  • As a matter of fact, he did, TailsGuy. :) Zimmer has quite a diverse resume, including the scores to the Wallace and Gromit film "Curse of the Were-Rabbit," the Anime series "Blood+" and even "Driving Miss Daisy!"

  • @24nascardiehard Oh I recalled that he never drove the 44 while the COT was in full use.

  • @Twister82697 no it was at bristol in 2008

  • I thought Dale Jarrett retired in 2007? That or he announced is retirement in 2007.

  • @RazorRC3 R.I.P. CBS-NASCAR

  • BETTER than Marubaku

  • Excellently done, but at 0:47 it's "im-PAL-uh", with the "pal" being pronounced like "palace".

  • very good i liked it. i also liked fox's starting lineup for this race, it had a MRN feel with all the drivers introducing themselves

  • I liked this, I miss the old broadcasters... Some are still good, like the FOX guys, and DJ has stepped up, but others... Not so much, you could turn TNT around if they hired you.

  • That was phenomenal! You totally sounded like either a carbon copy of Ken Squire minus the voice or one of the guys from MRN radio! You brought the passion of announcing a line-up and then putting all the little details like where the driver was from, who won what, how long has it been since a car race there...etc. That's the way your suppose to capture an audience! It's unfortunate that nowadays fans have to listen to "bland" announcers on TV, but at least the radio crew is still the same

  • I think Ken Squier would be proud of that. That was great.
