In celebration of the Johhny Mercer centennial, the Marcovicci singers are taking to the stage with some familiar yet timeless tunes. NY1's Tara Lynn Wagner filed the following report.
Celebrating the centennial of legendary songwriter Johnny Mercer, famed cabaret starlet, Andrea Marcovicci is once again taking the stage at the Algonquin Hotel's Oak Room, for a night of standards from the American Songbook.
"I'm singing songs in the atmosphere that they were originally written so there's something exquisite about that," Marcovicci said. "That when you walk through the door you have an all around experience of seeing things that were here 100 years ago."
"People love the American pop song everywhere in America. It's the poetry of America and if you don't hand it from generation to generation, then it's lost. And people want to hand it down," Marcovicci said.
Marcovicci knows a thing or two about handing it down. The performance teams her up with her mother, Helen, a noted torch singer from the 1950s.
Though the music was created before her time, Marcovicci has been keeping the tradition alive, celebrating her 23rd year of cabaret in the Oak Room.

Andrea Marcovicci is a one Class Act!

She is brilliant in how she preforms Cabaret Classics.

Her devotion for the American Songbook definitely comes across in all of her shows.

  • she is really pretty awful, she should have stuck to movies

  • Thanks

  • No one connects with an audience better than Marcovicci. To see her is to understand what makes the American writers like Mercer, Berlin, Porter so important and relevant, especially today. Catch her at The Algonquin if you can, and on Thursdays, marvel at her talented mom. Thanks for posting this clip.
