I decided to have a go at improvising over a chorus of 'all of me' after having miraculously became attached to the melody even after hearing it many a times before today. Although the video and audio quality is not as true as what is being heard in the room, it is still loud and clear. I encourage opinion as I am relatively new to the style of gypsy jazz.

  • what kind of guitar is that?

  • sound really good

  • @BlikeNave You are absolutely right, my excuses to BBB and I hope he continues playing GJ.

  • For information, listen to Milan Ollier from Zoltan of Swing. He's a french guitarist, three years of pratice only. 17 years old.

  • @zevenkamp You have good info but you're so rough around the edges. Your style and presentation is so harsh! I agree that he could use more decoration + force. But I still think his rhythm is good. I Youtubed "La Pompe" and the first "How to" video that came up about it sounded exactly like this guy's rhythm track. Sounds gypsy style to me. Even if it's not completely proper, at least he's trying. He can call it gypsy jazz cuz that's the aim and focus; it's not hip-hop or metal, ya know?

  • @BlikeNave No it doesn't, it is not a good La Pompe, notes are to pronounced.

As for the technique: Gypsy Jazz melody is never played with a locked wrist. You can hear this in the sound of the notes. The single line notes are playes with far to little decoration and force. etc.

This player can obviously play guitar, but in that case don't call it gypsy jazz style because it isn't.

  • very bad

  • As for the current top comment by boldstrummer about the rhythm being to country I disagree, I think that it is fitting to the chunky bob of gypsy jazz rhythm guitar. On the melody I could imagine more bends, from a half step below into the target note, and also some more stylish picking sprinkled in on certain notes. Like some tremelo picking right before the note or something. Sounds good though, just put some more Django spice in those fingers!
