When I was approached to do this video almost a year ago, I wasn't aware about the difficulties I'd face during production. First of all, the entire subject itself. When I started this video I could only rely on the Richard Harris / Alec Guinness movie "Cromwell" from 1970, a Monty Python Song and some essays in historical magazines but no monography nor a biography. My time at university didn't pay off either since Oliver Cromwell and the Protectorate were only mentioned in two or three sentences. I had to do some good old research with a collection of information and sorting of the same, something I did the last time for my exam. Then I formulated it into an essay and broke it apart again to form my video's script.

Further delay was caused by the sudden demise of my true computer who went the way of all flesh after eight years of loyal service. The first four minutes of my video were created on that computer with windows moviemaker xp. Of course I could salvage the file but it appeared that it isn't compatible with the windows life moviemaker what meant that I had to redo the complete video on windows life moviemaker which is far inferior to windows moviemaker xp and to which I needed some time to get used to. That leads us to the next problem I had, the music. I chose Verdi's Requiem relatively quickly because it's like a force of nature similar to Cromwell himself. With moviemaker xp it was pretty easy to cut the music as needed while the life moviemaker doesn't know anything about mixing and segue. Therefore I had to rearrange the music several times to get the best impact.

Another problem was as always duration. When I put the pictures, music and text together my video became an abomination of 19 minutes length. So, unfortunately I had to increase the speed to bring the video to an acceptable length. I am a quick reader so some might have a hard time to follow the text. I apologize for this inconvenience and can only ask for concentration during watching.

Although I didn't get the video I originally planned, I'm nevertheless content with it and I hope you enjoy the show.

I disagree, this video was clearly in favour of royalists and made cheap subtle comments toward Cromwell.
