Empiricism as a world view is dangerous since it excludes every truth that cannot be observed and reproduced. Some of these other truths may known in other ways.

  • When it comes to spiritual / supernatural beliefs, just try to keep it in perspective with what can really be known and how ideas can be communicated in absolute ways. least for the sake of self evaluation and clear communication so you and others can really study it and improve. Keep in mind the potential of mathematics and study things that let you express yourself in challenging ways. With infinite knowledge out there, how can you know where you are going without really knowing where you are?

  • There are ways of knowing and working with the "supernatural". You must be very confident, rational, and cautious to keep from making mistakes. One of the most fascinating way is sorting the inherent super similarity in the universe- by noticing coincidences and seeing distant connections. There are other ways too which rely on a sort of internal Empiricism: watching and working with the very nature of consciousness. It's practice, not something science is yet ready to approach. In time though.

  • There is empirical evidence to show that empiricism is not a fundamentally complete construct for truth, but rationalism also says sometimes we just don't know. Rationalism is a powerful tool used recklessly with Occam's razor can cut up and justify any truth you like. In a way, it is still just a path. But, the difference from other philosophies like Christianity, rationalist, hopefully, reject any dogma, including science, for a pragmatism that says there are no limits to what we can discover.

  • Yes our understanding has huge gaps and holes. Occam's razor should be seen as a last resort for when you're forced to make an uninformed decision. Thanks for your comments.

  • So how many shamanic tools have you used as doorways to other truths - tree bark and resin, minerals from gemstones, flowers, reptile venom, insects, Himalayan plant teachers...etc.? Burnt peacock feathers for trance really blows me away !

  • ...and you should also be aware of the consequences of breaking the seals on holy work.

  • Interesting food for thought, and I love critiques of empiracism, but I am also a skeptic. Would you answer a few inquiries?

Could you give me an example of an occurrence that is not-reproducible?

When intuition or feeling and logic contradict each other, which should take precedence?

If spirituality is on a higher level than empiricism, why does it seem to produce such greatly varied results and beliefs?

  • thanks. it's a bit preachy.

  • love this vid man , great

  • I see empiricism in a way as something clearly definable aspect of Rationalism. I do not believe any rationalist ascribes to pure empiricism any more than Cartesian philosophers ascribe solipsism. I think that is part of the beauty. I agree completely with your observation that all human truth is an merely an abstraction of truth even before we consider the implications and limits of language, but some abstraction results in group think, and other abstractions result in particle accelerators.

  • when we are fully in tune with the energies around us we will use spirit and intuition and logic to experience reality and construct working models and technologies to better our experience as we see fit, which is the truth in the first place

  • that was more of an off topic observation, philisophically i would say it is all about experience and buddhism teaches there is no abslolute truth for humans. having the boundries is what makes us human and shapes the reality.
