IMP-Style is Improvised Environmental Freestyle Dance. It is a gumbo of Zen, Parkour, Hip-Hop, trespassing, Contact Improv, and whatever else shows up. There is no choreography, no rehearsal, and no bail money. All sites are stumbled upon, exploited thoroughly, and hastily escaped from.

What I do: ride around on my motorcycle, until I find interesting things to dance with and/or on, put my camera on a tripod, and explore. I cut the highlights together to make this video. Enjoy!
Dancer: Stickman
Music: "Bridge" by Amon Tobin

  • did anyone help u shoot the vid??

check out MY video doing some semi dangerous jumps on public property

  • Thanks for checking it out. I saw your vid; cool stuff. That happens to be a move that spooks me a little, because I've had two intense injuries doing similar moves. I did this (and the other IMP-Style videos) all solo; just put the camera on a tripod and danced.

  • Too cool

    Love the tree part :D

  • Thanks, Ross!

That tree really spooked me when I saw it last year. An easy jump, but about 25' above concrete. It took me until maybe my third time going back there before I let go of the panic enough to try it. Now it's easy...

  • Yeah, I just started playing with PK at the age of 37, so I'm not quite ready to shoot insane tricks or anything. I just find it interesting to dance with a 3-dimensional space or object, and I think the principles are the same as with PK (least effort, use what's there, flow, freestyle, etc.).

  • This is parkour it isnt just like fancy as we prefer =)

  • Is this supposed to be serious?

  • Thanks for the good words, Alex!

I love the fountains, as well. I stumbled across them and I just felt this clear "of course." I even happened to have extra clothes for the motorcycle ride home. Changed behind a bench in the park.

I listen to earbuds. It's the only thing that will stay in. Can't use loud playback, cuz I'm often trespassing. Always have to travel light.

  • Funny thing is, it's easy to do. It's entirely a mental game, because of the consequence of messing up. But the physical act is super easy.

  • The video description rocks. Gimme extreme trespassing!

  • I can totally see how that tree jump (at 3:56) was way too spooky. Man that's risky.

  • The shots against a lit fountain were awesome! I can also see that you have improved a lot - pulling some really cool moves - good for you!

Do you listen to music, boombox or headphones, when you do all this?
