Like it or not, the 'insanity' stigma will keep people away in droves. We found my great grandfather among the remains at Oregon State Hospital; and obtained his records. He had a stroke, was mentally impaired, and bedridden. The family couldn't take care of him. In those days, you sent them to the state hospital. I got over it. If it weren't for this man, none of us would be here to be 'embarrassed' by it.
There was a state mental hospital from the late 1800's in Pittsburgh, PA called Dixmont. It was a historic Kirkbride building, but Walmart tore it down in hopes to build up there. The state still owns the Dixmont cemetery. It's ashame. The headstones are the size of bricks marked with numbers. There are records online, they lack alot of information.
I volunteer at a state mental hospital and I love it. The state is shutting it down though to save money :( I'm going to miss the patients!
Oregon is filled with secrets, the kkk and now nazi's are invading our schools, true story!! I don't need no Nazi Doctor!! Research Theodore Gilbert Morell!! Now there are laws for torture and death, the military commissions act and the NCBLA! Weeee take a pill to wake up!!
Oregon State hospital is at the forefront of bringing about change. We learn from history and we INDIVIDUALLY take action to make things better.

You know what they say.....
IF THE STRAIT JACKET FITS.....WEAR IT!
Now, tell me... how do I get out of here?
I feel the walls caving in...
What did you say about my mother?
No, I won't; I won't show you my hands.
....They peeled back my finger nails and began the surgical procedure and transplant.
