The University of Santo Tomas Singers (UST Singers) performing the one most genius compositions of the great contemporary American Composer - Eric Whitacre - Leonardo Dreams of His Flying Machine. Inspired by the writings from the manuscript of Leonardo da Vinci's notebook, Whitacre tackled the eternal dream of man to take to the skies that have paved way to the contemporary science of avaition.

Enjoy this rare recording of the UST Singers performed live in their concert at the Broadway Grand Ballroom of the Marroit Marquis Hotel in Times Square New York City on May 22, 2005.

  • FOR EVERYONE'S INFORMATION: the person under the name of SELINA JEVRI whose username: 'thisisthedeadgirl' that posted several comments here, claiming that she was a former member of the UST Singers and also claiming she's a member of ITB Singers of Bandung Indonesia - HAS NO CONNECTION WHATSOEVER TO AND WAS NEVER A MEMBER NOR A TRAINEE of the UST Singers.

In the choir's roster of members and trainees from 1992 up until the present batch, there's no record of the said name. Thanks.

  • These people saying derogatory remarks about the UST Singers rendition of Whitacre's difficult piece must be motivated by envy and an overdose of sour graping. ItsmrGuy and the rest of whiners and complainers think they know better than the conductor himself. Well, listen to the choir Whitacre himself conducted and compare. The UST Singers' version is much much better. You prefer rigid and robotic reading of notes to creative and innovative singing which THE SINGERS DO.

  • @upmadz20 So you're saying the UST Singers have a better understanding of how the piece should sound than the COMPOSER HIMSELF? Seriously? Whitacre says himself the reason he writes with such dissonance is because when it is performed correctly and WITHOUT vibrato, the shimmering sounds created just make him "want to die in that moment." This recording is garbage. Wrong key, no attention payed to harmony and ensemble blend, just a bunch of soloistic opera singers shouting 'LOOK AT ME!!!'

  • different, but I liked it.

  • Without vibrato, tones are out of tune. You don't realize that until you GROW UP. ;)

It makes sense now reading your post....I knew I heard some ACTUAL GOOD and FLEXIBLE singing in here. There are some balance issues, yes....but in other more rigid recordings there are "non singer sounds" issues. lol SO....ying yang.

  • You really took it off the page.

  • FABULOUS!!!!!!!!!!!! times 1000000

  • I dont like it.

  • I think that the UST is a very professional and off-stage, very humble choir. I love Whitacre but I enjoy this rendition as much. I think itsmrGuy was abit too critical about the choir.

  • Vibrato or no vibrato, this is better than no music at all.

The pictures are yet painted on the canvas backdrop of my brain.
