I'm not sure you can do it hand held. You can do the live action as helishorn explained, but you coud shoot the actual teleport sill on a tripod, then manipulate camera movement with ur editing system by moving the layer around and using keyframes, after ur done animating the teleport

I can't believe I never thought about using different background layers for masking when something in the scene changes :p. Thanks much for doing these tutorials!

Ok, but how do I do this with a moving shot and a moving actor? Say I want to shoot this hand held to make it look like I'm in the action. And my guy draws a gun while in transport, and I pan over to see what he's looking at as another guy transports in.

what version of after effects is this. it looks so much better than 6.5.

Im using after effects cs2 for my projects. I doubt you can change the look of 6.5 to make it look like cs2 though.

The base idea is the same. You need to separate the actor from the background somehow; green screen, rotoscoping, or animated masks are your best bet for this. Once your actor or prop is separate from the back ground all of the techniques for the clone effect will work just the same.
