This is what happens to your house when you live beside an elevator and a 500,000 bushel grain bin bursts under pressure. The family was inside and thanks to their neighbors and rescue crews they were dug out. My brother was standing in his yard when it went. It made a huge popping sound and then he saw it sweep the house from its foundation. Hillsboro Iowa 2007.

  • holy cow man thats alot of corn...arent those bins built to withstand such pressure? or was it overloaded?.. man thats crazy..glad everyone survived

  • @dueltruck700 I didn't hear what the final investigation revealed, but it was rumored that it was an engineering flaw. There wasn't enough or big enough bolts in the seam of the manufacturer of this grain bin to hold back the pressure and weight of the bin when it was full. I had heard that the people in the surrounding houses had petitioned the build of these bins so close to there house a short time before it happened. They were concerned that it wasn't safe and the noise of the blowers.

  • @dueltruck700 Unfortunately their petition to stop the build of these bins didn't do any good. I heard it was because of the way the zoneing laws were in place, they couldn't legally stop the build.

  • Wow, show what would happen if 3,000 to 4000 acres of corn landed on your house. Did they find the reason for failure? Were they able to salvage most of the corn?

    Glad everyone was ok.

  • @getyourbone Luckily, because of fast acting neighbors, everyone came out alive. My brother was standing in his driveway when he heard it go. He said it started at the top and sounded and looked like a giant zipper coming down and opened it up. He called 911 and was the first one there. He said it took the house like it wasn't even there. The people didn't know what hit them. One second they are sitting in the living room and the next thing they know the house came down on top of them. Verylucky

  • look at those hillbillies!!!!!

  • Those Hillbillies as you called them, spent all night risking their lives digging thru tons of corn that had crushed this house and trapped a family inside a 2 ft. high space. Call them what you want, they are still better people then you. I watched your videos. You're a waste of space.

  • can you make a vid wain you have time to see the bin after

  • and look what happened...an entire family homeless..

  • well you know government..wont listen unitl property gets damaged or someone gets hurt..

  • Did everyone survive unscathed? Given the degree of devastation, it's almost hard to believe everyone got out alive. Kudos to those who rescued the family!
