127 out of 200 frames of a water flow rendering.

Used RealFlow 5 and then Maya, rendered with Mental Ray.

There are invisible "rocks" it's flowing over.

For you people who are all subscribed to me for my Joker videos, this is what I've been working on for the last...two years? Man...

Yeah, so I'm teaching myself computer animation. I wish I could render animations of my more complex stuff, but a frame of that takes almost an entire 24 hours.

I don't want to spend a full year on a few seconds of an animation ;)

  • My stills some times take more than 50 hours...but an animation-frame max 45min^^. So this took 127 days?! My longes animation took nearly 500 hours :D.

    What hardware are you using?

  • @onlyCreativity GeForce 8800 GTS 512 (is it really worth flashing that to a Quadro for rendering?), 4 gigs of DDR3 RAM, quad core Intel (Q6600), and then I have my MacBook Pro (dual core) networked too.

I can't understand why it took a day each frame.. :S.

There won't be a difference if you flash your geforce or not..mental ray uses ONLY the CPU! But if you flash it you will get a much better performace in Viewport (OpenGL and Direct3D), I mean the framerate will increase. That's better when you work on high poly scenes!

If you got questions just ask!

Oh dude, it wasn't a day per frame on that animation. I'm talking about a current one that has full Bokeh DoF, HDR lighting, textures, and grass/fur :P

But yeah, I wish Iray was out for Maya 2011. I was disappointed.
